Default C3 Battery Cable Connection

I bought a 71 that has been sitting for a couple decades. I need a new side connection battery however, the connection size on the battery is larger than the bolts on the car connection cable. I have checked all the major auto supply stores but haven't been able to find a replacement battery that can accommodate the car cable bolt. Unfortunately, I don't know the sizes, just that the battery connection is larger than the bolt on the car cable.
Any thoughts or suggestions??

Can you open up the holes in the cable and use the larger bolt?

If my old memory is correct, the battery bolts are 3/8, coarse thread 1/2 long. The heads of those bolts use a 5/16 wrench and they have a large washer made as part of the bolt.

I hate the standard BOLTS used in side post ... they're so short they tend to pull out threads in battery

I used a good cap screw ... and a good Nyloc nut .... and dielectric grease ... stick the cap screw through the terminal and just bottom & snug cap screw into battery ...
... then hold the head of cap screw with a wrench while snugging the nut against terminal ... slide a short piece of hose over the bolts. Did same on my DD pickup. Been working great for me. YMMV

Not so different from studded main caps w/ windage tray.

Same system I use. Of course, I have replaced all my battery cables with bigger 0/1 cable that I got at West Marine so no longer have the stock terminals.

Thanks that sounds reasonable. The car is in the shop now but I will give your recommendation a try when it comes back.
