So I just got my fuel tank cleaned and pressure tested and replaced the fuel hoses at the rear (They were preished) and bled fuel up to the 350 and...... no go (I haven't started the motor before but was told it was running prior to the fuel issue.) . It cranks over fine but doesn't start even with a bit of starter fluid, so straight to the ignition, spark plug tester getting no spark, tested coil output lead no spark. It has a crane fireball xr700 ignition (Sounds cooler than it actually is I reckon).
The system has a module which is lighting up while cranking (meaning all the wiring is good). I checked the primary and secondary coil resistance and it's well out of spec.
I wanted to just buy a coil and whack one in and give it another go but the for this system the cheapest I can find is $130.
Now I'm thinking I just spend a bit extra and get a DUI or MSD Street fire.
I had a Pertonix in my vette years ago and they said to use any coil with 1.5 ohms of resistance and I now have an MSD pro billet ready to run(no box) and they suggest there street fire coil. What I'm saying is try any coil with 1.5 ohms of resistance and see what happens. I doubt if that company invented a brand new type of coil for the limited number of units they'll sell'
I think the xr700 setup is a points conversion set up??? If it is you could convert it back to points.
Spot on it is, that's why I'm leaning towards going to a HEI setup,I believe to setup the Fireball you replace the points in the distributor, I don't have the original parts and really would rather just have a HEI setup.
