Default What is this thing?

Can anyone clue me into what this thing is?
There is a tube that goes from this thing all the way from the drivers side to the passenger side where the windshield spray bottle is, but its not hooked up to anything.
It also seems to be grounded, but no wires for power.

There was a company named Sparton that made various aftermarket horns and alarms.

Ah, thanks for your help.
Not trying to be doubting your expertise when I'm asking for help, but would an external vacuum system need a power line to work?
I don't even see 2 places to connect + and -

I've done a bunch of work to the engine, but this was in there when I bought it and the engine wasn't touched at all. Original camshaft and accessory vacuum system.

Is there any way this is some kind of filter?
Oil catch can?
Fuel vapor...something?
(original fuel vapor canister is still in place)

What ever it is, it takes some oil through the cap.

And, you need a half inch shorter ALT Belt. You are at the end of your limit. Sorry I don't have some belt part numbers off hand.

Looks like a compressor pump for small auto air horns ... maybe horns long gone ... recall when they were popular ... some even played "Dixie"

Well, who cares what it was for, It is only sitting there with a ground wire and a hose that goes to nothing.
Get rid of it!

If you look at the pictures on the horn of the Sparton symbol its the same "S", so I'm guessing air canister for some old horn set up.

...An old horn set up?! How funny.
I get a mental image of a "la cucaracha" horn as my white 1972 rolls up. ha
Glad I now have the car now.
My plan was to use this place in the engine bay for some headlight relays, so I'll just remove this thing.

Thanks to you all for your help.
