A question for the techs out there.
My 74 350ci Twin Turbo seems to be running a bit hot. About 210*. Currently have a 3 core aluminum radiator. Considering installing a supplemental electric fan in front of radiator. Comments welcomed by All.

Looks like the seals have been removed from the radiator top.
You might try replacing them to force the flow of air through the radiator rather than allowing it to pass up and over.
Check to insure the lower radiator hose has the internal spring installed that keeps the hose from collapsing.
Front air dam been removed?
Are you running dual electric fans now or the stock manual fan?

Youll get lots of opinions on fans...id definitely install a good oil cooler with those turbos that will help.

I bet that is a riot to drive, nice to see a gen 1 boosted rather than another lsx. Did you do that yourself, what brand/size?

car is HISTORICAL piece. Built in 1977 by Bob Larson of Larson’s Engineering out of Livonia.MI, Carl Holbrook of Holbrook Racing Engines and Dave Schilk of Ford Racing. Car was garaged for over 42 years. Bob Larson designed the Custom Twin Turbos to function using stock C3 hood. I changed over to FITech injection system and hood is being reshaped to accept 4.5” height increase as you read this. Lots of other extras added in last 3 months. MSD ignition, RideTech front and rear coil over suspension, front and rear anti sway bars, BFG Radials 15x 10 ( car had original 77 tires). Entire car had only 2 miles on it when purchased.
History details are available via GOOGLE. “74 Twin Turbo American Pickers.

glad you like😎👍🏁

Actually, 210*F doesn't sound all that hot for what you have under the hood...especially with poor sealing on the radiator housing. The more you can force air into and through ONLY the radiator (not under, over or around it), the cooler it will run. What T-stat is in the cooling system?

That's a really nifty car!

I would absolutely try adding the foam pieces around the radiator before doing anything else. I'd also make sure that the front chin spoiler is doing it's job, and all of the pieces are in place (here's my banged up 80 for reference, with an intact replacement lower bumper extension)

Do you have overheating issues on the highway, or in stop-and-go traffic? An extra fan isn't going to do anything above about 40 mph, and may even make things worse on the highway.

Hmmm. I think you just helped me make a decision against the electric fan. If things get hot I can always have it added. Thank you very much.

I don't see an intercooler for your turbos. In addition to my 68 bb convert, I have a heavily modified twin turbo RX-7. I changed the stock air-to-air intercooler for one that has five times the surface area. In addition to increasing the power output, this change made the engine running temperature go down ten degrees. Even a small intercooler stuffed in the front of the grill area on your car would help lower the incoming air temp and would add even more power. An electric fan will also help, but your turbo really increases the amount of heat you have to deal with.

the Larson Turbos do not use intercooler. I am being told by a few drivers and mechanics that my 210 temp is not bad.
I will check on the intercooler though. Makes mechanical performance sense

thank you I appreciate the input.

nothing wrong wtih adding one thats hooked to a thermostatic switch as a secondary. can be pusher or puller wherever you have room
for instance a spal fan kit has a switch that kicks on at 200 off at 185...not sure how other controllers are (reliability)

Thanks and your suggestion is exactly what is being checked on now. Front of radiator but lots of fab to connect. Great input, thanks so much. This Forum is loaded with experience and it is really a good place to bounce ideas and questions. Hope all is good on your side too.

This fan and no fan clutch always worked for me on many different vehicles. I also drill a 1/8" hole in the thermostat to "burp" the system in case air gets in.

Turns out my concern about the 210* was misplaced. The dashboard temp gauge showed 210-220* but the FITech hand control showed 188-193* for the entire 4 hour run. So engine temp is fine. My hats off to Eddie Silva at Daisy Tire in Santa Paula, CA. His info and Upgrade performance recommendations were what this ride needed.
