I’m looking for a good clutch for my 71, car will have a m21. Engine is a fully forged 355 lmsc engine good for 7k rpm, I’ve heard good things about centerforce, ram, McLeod, just curious what you guys are running
Just had a McLeod Super Street Pro, 75221, installed last October. Smooth operation, clutch pedal pressure feels like stock to me. I believe it's rated for 500 hp. I decided on the McLeod after reading Lars thread regarding clutches for C2's and C3's.
What I ended up with is something like this, I'm out away from home so I don't know the exact part number. But the tko 600 is a 26 spline 1.125 input shaft for ford. You just need to call these guys. This is rated for 950 foot pounds of TQ and 1000+ HP. I have a manual pedal and it is easy on your leg. Very easy to shift
Centerforce has a light metal clutch setup, which includes a lightweight flywheel. LMC is the acronym they use to find it in their catalog. Advantage is lower rotational moment of inertia. You get quicker revs and don't waste horsepower by spinning up heavier metal. I've been happy with it in both SBC and LS versions.
look at the pictures posted below... in the first picture of the CF clutch please let me know what laws of physics that keeps the weights centered and without off balance vibration...

Here's the link to the lars thread I mentioned in my post: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...vel-range.html
With it being a MAJOR PITA to replace a clutch in these cars, you may want to check it out. That's why I decided to pay someone who's familiar with C3's to replace mine.

My Centerforce did the same thing. Vibrated like hell. Went with a McLeod, smooth sailing all these years now.
My Centerforce Dual Friction has been great. Had it about 24 years. Gripped better than the stock clutch right after I installed it--when I had the monster clutch replaced, the shop would only do stock stock, and that thing would not hold and slipped if you hammered it. (FYI- normally I would do this myself but had to get it done due to work and time limitations). The stock clutch was a nice soft pedal but just would not grip.
SO--- when i had time I replaced that clutch with a Centerforce D.F.
I removed the weights about a year or 2 ago just to see if they made any difference, or if they were making noise.. Didn't make any difference on mine.
I have a CenterForce Stage 2 Clutch and I love the thing. It has great pedal "feel" and holds on to a 427 that has been worked over and makes a lot of torque. Mine is also 24+ years old. I would buy another CenterForce Clutch in a heartbeat.
My Buddy put in a name brand aftermarket clutch assembly in his Mustang GT and that clutch was so hard to hold down. He had to change it back to the stock type pressure plate as his wife had a hard time with the aftermarket pressure plate.
I am very happy with the amount of grip that my light pedal feel has on my 1968 L71 Corvette.
