THM-350 loose shift shaft
Hi all, I have a 76 C3 with an L-48 and a THM350. I was driving it last night for maybe 20 minutes, ran absolutely fantastic, shifted real smooth, and then when I got back to my garage, I moved the shifter into reverse and nothing happened. I played with the shifter and found reverse as well as drive and park but the shifter is now real loose, I cant feel the neutral or 2nd gear detent and the shift shaft has a lot of in and out play on the transmission case. When I get home from school im gonna drop the pan, ive read that the shift shaft bolt backing off can cause problems like this. Can it? What else should I look at? Can you tighten this bolt with the valve body in place? I keep finding conflicting information. Thanks in advance.

Your problem is likely due to a problem with the shift cable (between shifter and transmission), the cable linkage, or a bracket problem. While an internal problem could be in play, it is much more unlikely.
