Since I got this car (1969 Roadster), I have been correcting a lot of strange Bubba type things. Nearly all of it has been corrected. While I am rebuilding my pedal box and installing a new power brake booster, I have the steering column out. It is a tilt and tele column. Replacing the ignition switch while it is out.
One thing I noticed is that the turn signal harmonica connecter was never mounted to the column and naturally, I want to correct that. However...
The clip on the column is not large enough for the harmonica connector to clip into!
I do not know if this is a rebuilt column with some standard column parts on it or some other issue. Does anybody know if the harmonica connectors are different size with respect to tilt/tele and standard columns?
The later made replacement switches had a wider harmonica piece. The later C3 had more features so used more wires(2) and I guess they just made one piece to fit all years later on.
If there's nothing wrong with the column and its connection is functional I would just leave as is rather than digging into it for aesthetics.
Your comment made me recall reading in one of Jim Shea's papers regarding how the aftermarket harmonica connector would not fit into the existing harness. So, I went back under the dash and what do you know...some weird adapter...along with the original size harmonica connector. Now, just need to switch over the wires and we are good.
