Default Having problems with PS Ram Cylinder from Ecklers

Ok I decided to buy the remanufactured power steering cylinder from Ecklers. When I received the part I had a bad tread inlet and I could not start the hose fitting into it. I got it to catch and wrenched it down a bit and it just messed up the treads on my new hose. So I then went throw the process of returning the part and waiting for the new replacement. I just got in the replacement cylinder and all the treads this time is good. Then looking at it I found out they gave me a regular standard nut for the shaft part and some kind of cheap sheet metal lock nut. There is no way I was going to install that nut on there so I went to Napa a picked up a castle nut and a cotter pin. Then I started on installing the cylinder and found out the hole for the cotter pin was not drilled into the center of the shaft and made it unable to put a cotter pin throw it. :mad So I’m now not sure what I should do. It also seems like the shaft has some slack where it comes out of the seal and I can move it sideways a bit. Is that normal on a remanufactured cylinder? I can’t believe they would sell a part knowing the castle nut would not work and then trying to fix it up with a standard nut and a very cheap lock nut  . What happens if I use their Jerry Rig setup and the nut falls off in time? So should I send the part back in again wait for mess up #3? Or should I go somewhere else and cut my losses for a safer part? Where is a good place to buy a PS Ram at? Well I know this was kind of long but I had to vent off some steam and let others know of Eklers PS rams.

Seems like I've read about problems getting these replacements PS cylinder to work properly before from other forum members. Vette Brakes and Parts is usually very highly regarded for their quality. Maybe you can re-return the Ecklers part and talk to VBP and tell them the problems you had and let them describe how your new peice would be before you buy it. Im pretty sure I saw these in the VBP catalog at pretty much the same price as anywhere.

I also have heard you get better luck with the rebuilds and not the new ones.

Good luck Brent....

I believe VBP supplies Ecklers with their PS parts.
VBP is highly regarded as Brent stated. Maybe you got the occasional bad 1 (or 2) in the batch.

Concur with Shoptek. You should just return the part if not satisfied. They'll take care of you.
