Well it looks like I have to buy a new crank. My machine shop will get me one that is .010-.010 including rod and mains for $243. Or I can get a new SCAT without bearings from a power seller on ebay for $215 + shipping. He also has a stroker SCAT for a little more money that would give me roughly a 496. Here are my questions.
1. What would you do?
2. Can I use my same rods with the stroker or would I have to buy new ones?
3. What about pistons, do I have to buy special ones, if so which ones?
4. Does the block have to be clearenced like the sb 383 stroker?
Any thing that I may have forgotten please chime in.
I am not certain on the post if you want to repair the motor or stroke while repairing but FWIW you can buy a CAT Crank for 179.00 new and are pretty good cranks for the money. Not a race piece but as much crank as many 468's are in need of.
We bought one for a Jet Boat motor that makes around 600hp on pump gas @6300 rpm w/ GM Rectangular port heads and ran hard for two years before being sold and is now on a Chevelle breaking transmissions
Re: Need quick advice on a stroked BB (mountainmotor)
Thanks mountainmotor. Where can I get the crank that you suggested and how does it compare to the SCAT? I like the idea of a stroker but the budget likes your idea better :yesnod:
Contact Bill Mitchell or Summit. Costs are the same, regardless of the stroke. If you go to a 4.25" stroke, it is best to get the longer rods and yes, you have to match the piston to the stroke and rod length.
