While under the car that the Interlock linkage cable (which is connected to the lever part of the column arm in the engine bay) is not connected on the other end. On page 210 of the 69 Factory Assembly Manual it appears to
connect to the transmission. The page itself is a bit faded, and there is no explanation as to what this does and how it is adjusted. I was wondering if having this disconnected is a safety issue...
It is supposed to connect to the reverse lever of the transmission. If it is not connected, on the column end, it should be secured so that the column lever doesn't accidentally lock the steering wheel.

Thanks for the info - it appears, from what I've read that it locks the steering wheel and transmission when the keys are removed. My steering wheel does lock when the keys are removed, but the transmission can still be shifted.

Primitive form of "nannyware". On manual transmissions, it's supposed to prevent you from removing the ignition key unless it's in reverse gear. I found this rather annoying so I disconnected mine on the trans end and secured it in the tunnel with some safety wire. It DOES NOT lock the steering wheel.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up - wasn't clear on the Interlock linkage's purpose.
Correct it does not directly lock the wheel but it prevents the key from being turned off inless you are in reverse, since turning the key off locks the wheel. Google Jim Sheas article on C3 Corvette Steering Column To Transmission Interlock System
Connected at both ends by installing the open end over the stud on both the reverse lever and the column lever. Secured with a cotter pin (have fun getting the reverse lever cotter pin in with the exhaust and supports in place).
If you are intent on keeping it, proper adjustment procedure is paramount to not bending the internal cable. Ask me how I know.
1. Ignition in Off Position
2. Trans in reverse (make sure column lever is in full reverse position, in other words as far vertical as it will move...you can reach around the PBB and move it by hand)
3. Loosen the bolts under the dash that hold the column to the fire wall (two bolts). The firewall has slots and the bracket on the engine side will adjust removing any tension in the cable will position itself.
4. Tighten the bracket bolts under the dash
