Default Monoleaf spring - spacer? removable?

Finnishing up my 68 c3 BB car.

Rear ride height is a bit high and the clearance between the spring ends and my 18" wheel is really close.

See this image - Can I reduce the thickness of the space mounting pad of the monoleaf? taking a 1/2 off would help a lot but would leave it about 1/4" thick.
Thoughts???

Swap it to underneath the spring is my thought.

If you take it off there you need to make it up on the bottom or risk bottoming out the bolts in the doff cover (read breaking through)
Someone else in the Butt-Too-High thread just moved the spacer to the bottom.
Who made the spring?

I believe it is a VB spring. I well look at moving it to the other side.
Just did not know if it serves a purpose other than as a spacer
