Default Where to mount an MSD box

Where have you guys mounted your MSD boxes I don't have wiper arms on the car because I don't drive it in the rain and I keep rain x on the windshield so I'm wondering about there or behind the glove compartment.

I have no heater so mounted it there. Before that I had it mounted just above the washer bottle in passenger fender. Have also seen a few under the parking brake console and in the nose of the car.

They generate heat & they like some air flow. Some are sealed to weather, thus are more flexible as to placement; most CT cars have em atop dash ... some on tunnel.

When CD boxes fail, you're dead in the water ... reason CT, RR cars often run a switchable pair of boxes w/ two coils & a dual-pickup dist. ... essentially a redundant system ... boxes fail.

The more robust boxes' circuits are potted in a thick urethane which helps dampen vibration & functions as a heat sink.

Don't recommend them for a street car. Have a spare matched MSD HVC box & coil ... from one of ill-fated driver Jerry Nadeau's old cars. Poor fellow, TBI.

I wanted a crane box, I thought FAST had bought them but I wasn't sure I got a deal on a 6 AL . I like the wiper well. I think that's the easiest and certainly accessable. I wonder if they have a way of dealing with jump starting.

Well, I don't use the storage so its in the box next to battery. I have checked and it's never too warm (6AL-2 Programmable).

I removed the charcoal canister since all the emission equipment was removed, and mounted it to the wheel well. Purchased a set of additional rubber stand-off / insulators so the unit would be held in place on each corner. The cables were long enough so I didn’t have to spice the cables from the MSD Control.

Mounting in the storage compartment is more wiring than I want to get into, but probably is a good location.

the daytona sensors unit is much more than I need, at least for now.lots of nice features

I mounted mine in the passenger side fender where the washer bottle would have been. It gets airflow as the air moves out the side vents. It is also a pretty easy location to reach.

mines behind the passenger dash pad up high where the radio amp was mounted from the factory. Its a short route to the dizzy and plenty of area to hide the wires.

where the wiring comes through the wall

I mounted it upside down to get the plug on the left so I could unplug it easily if I had to weld on the frame to protect it

Mine is in the same general location. We put the MSD box, trans controller, radiator overflow and six relays for the EFI, in this location. Actually added a catch can yesterday also. Area is about to capacity now! Wanted to maintain that clean “old school” look under the hood.

I no longer have vacuum headlights or wiper door so I was able to remove the massive vacuum canister. Then I made a platform and mounted my 6AL with the rubber feet to minimize vibration.
