So I have a 1971 Corvette Coupe, it currently has a small block in it. The engine was just rebuilt. It has the L46 cam in it and an edelbrock performer intake. Other than that everything is stock. I am looking to try to make more HP. Any suggestions on heads or other things that could help gain some needed HP IMO.
Oh WOW, now this is a loaded question. I'll be watching this. Pretty much any good aftermarket head will help you make more power. It can come down to your budget. What compression ratio your looking to achieve. And are you planning on keeping this cam? Even the budget Edlebrock E Street heads will give you a performance increase. And work with the cam and intake manifold you have.
why two threads on same subject but neither discloses all pertinent info ... oh well, moving forward.
If IF it currently has stock 71 heads they're likely 487 castings which have chambers about 76cc ...
... (487 don't flow worth a flip but they don't tend to crack either)
Other thread says it has flattops
Other thread I recommended afr enforcer heads ... still do
FWIW, L46 cam is same as L82 aka x962
This thread indicates rebuild is fresh

? what's your $budget$ ?
? was block decked ? How much?
? @ TDC, How far from deck are Pistons ? ... it matters: Quench *
? was block bored ? How much ?
? With your fresh build (likely fresh cam&lifters) ... are you willing to change cam&lifters again ?
* Dependent upon how far pistons are from deck; a proper thickness gasket can be recommended (quench matters more than black olives) *
Long tube headers and a 2.5" exhaust with real mufflers that have a 2.5" outlet......which NONE of the pre-bent systems do......
Perform a curve to the stock distributor and set the timing proper per Lars papers (E-Mail him: V8fastcars@msn.com).
Try these two things first.
Heads are expensive and require a bunch of other components but will raise the power level by at least 50 horsepower.
