My DIY Alignment method
I came up with this easy way to measure camber:
jack up under shock and remove wheel
remove upper and lower ball joint grease fitting
place a small bolt through rigid strip of plastic at least 3' long
place the bolt into the upper fitting hole and hold the strip up to a square and mark the spot on a piece of tape on the floor
do the same for the lower.
measure the length between the marks; 0.62 is about 3.5 degrees; 0.40 (~3/8) is 2,5 degrees. (for other distances just ask google with the second shortest side at 10")
The wheel can be turned left or right for ease of access - it doesn't matter.
Like you said, the exact degrees doesn't matter for most applications - just fairly equal side to side
