Default 1980 a/c compressor question

PO removed the smog pump and now there is no top bracket to the compressor causing the belt to be loose with no real way to tighten it. I ordered what was advertised as a top bracket but i think it would only work with the smog pump in place. Anyone else had this issue or have in suggestions on how to fix the problem. There is an automotive machine shop in town my only solution may be to have them make a bracket that will bolt the back of compressor and the block.

Not sure what the issue is. I bought mine new and have pulled the air pump and bracket off. The AC dose not use the air pump bracket. See photos below.

Here's where you'd see the pump if still there. AC compressor is fine. The rusty rod extending from the back of the AC bracket mounts to the intake manifold.

Close up of the support rod between the AC bracket and manifold.

pump now in storage with its bracket still attached.

Mine is an L82, but I'd be surprised if this was rigged differently other SBC's that year.

Thanks for your reply and pictures. It appears from looking at valve cover your compressor is on lest (drivers) side mine is Ontario right. I have the rod but can’t seem to find where it bolts to the manifold. Guess I’m a little slow I am going to look again today. It’s raining so got nothing better to do

Actually the AC is on the right (passenger) side. The valve cover "tilt" is just due to the angle of the photo. Here's a photo with the support bracket from the AC to the manifold. Fortunately I had the air filter housing and snorkel ducts off already for other work. The attach point is just below and ahead of the choke.
