hey guys, i am a proud new owner of a '79 vette L48 w/3 spd auto. it is horribly beat, as oil + antifreeze + AT fluid drip while it is running, no gauges work, interior is all torn up, there are always puddles of water on the floorboards, and the leaves on my rear leaf spring are dangerously close to sliding off the bottom leaf. but, i couldn't possibly love it more :chevy :chevy :chevy
i am only 16 and have just gotten my permit, and i don't think a vette is a bad way to start my driving with. :D
just wanted to say hi, and hopefully you guys can help me in the future, since i gotta repair/replace almost everything on this beast. thanks!! :flag
Welcome, sounds like you have a real project there. Take your time, do it right, ask questions when you need to. You'll find most of the folks here will be happy to help.
welcome to the forum and good luck with the vette, dont hesitate to ask questions ,theres alot of helpful people on here.and another newjersian too
Congrats!! Welcome! You'll find all sorts of info here. If anything goes wrong with your Vette, it's happened to someone here before and they can tell you how to fix it. Plus they are all pretty entertaining. You picked a good year! :yesnod:
:seeya Congrats on your new vette and getting your permit! You should have a lot of fun working on the vette.... but (at the risk of sounding like the DAD of a 16 yr old, which I am! :) ) ..... you would be better off driving something else, especially in this weather (It has been raining the past 2 days and lots of wet leaves all over the place) for a while. Anyway, good luck with the vette. We are here to help. :) MJ
Welcome aboard!!
Sounds like you will be taking it off the road soon and doing more work then driving. Take you time do it right. You can end up with a car you will be very proud of. It took me over a year to get my 76 on the road but I am very proud of it. good luck and drive safe.
a vette is a great way to start your driving career. Sounds like you will also get an opportunity to learn the mechanical side of owning one early. Dont worry it will only help U in the lng run.
hey metal_wulf, i got same paint job as you! of course yours looks much better, but just give me some time :D
you have the same paint as me? Check the trim plate and post the codes, cause if it is the same then you have a '78 and not a '79... otherwise someone painted your '79 to look like a '78 SA.

Re: new vette owner!! (radwebster)
radwebster, Let me tell how bad jealous my son would be. He will be 16 in February. He would like to be 16 and driving a vette for his first car. Congrats on your car. Take care of it. My first corvette was a 79 also.
Congrats! ... sorry about the cheers, you have a few years before you can drink a toast for your vette. I'm guessing that by then your car will be so . Actually, I'm sure it's bearutiful already, as all of our cars are. One thing you will find is that none of them are ever finished, there's always something else to do. So don't get frustrated, take it one step at a time and enjoy every accomplishment!
