My '77 L82 4 speed with 370 gear has started dropping all power for a couple of seconds and then runs great. It is running an Edelbrock AVS2 carb. Proform disbributor. I have had this car for about 18 momths and never had this issue before. At start up it runs very high and I kick it down to about 1500 rpms. after it warms up it will calm down to about 8 rpms. If a punch it while I am in Neutral it goes back to a fast idle and very slowly comes back down. My vacuum line is plugged into the right side port. I am thinking the vacuum line may have a leak or the main ground cable connection is getting bad. any ideas would be helpful. This problem only happens under load, generally from taking off from a dead start.
Adjust your carburetor fast idle speed so that when it first starts it goes to 1.500 no higher.
Check that the choke is correctly adjusted and remains fully open when warm. If it is closing when taking off from a dead start it will cause the engine to bog.
Your comment about the vacuum line I assume is for the distributor?
Is the right side port you refer to ported or full manifold vacuum?
When you say power I assume you mean engine power not electrical power since you mention the ground cable?
