That's pretty cool. I wonder how they get around no vacuum advance or even a vacuum signal for electronic advance.

It is because you're programming it all on your own. The entire curve is mapped out, including where your vacuum advance would normally kick on.

That is a really good idea. I purchased a cheap tach drive off amazon to finish my engine build, so when I'm ready to upgrade to a higher quality distributor I'm going to give this a serious look.

OK Jackson, now you've gone and opened up a thread that just might go into the 100's this week.

Sure, why not?
You can use a smartphone to start your washer and dryer, check your fridge, control security at you home, etc.
Just one more thing the hackers can work at until they figure out how to mess up your life. Gives them something to do all day.
Hope you can't save the info on FB. Then you are screwed.

I just got this one in the shop. Someone with talent and time machined a tach drive, and installed an HEI top. Very well made.

It appears to have a built-in MAP sensor, so a vacuum line would just run from the manifold to the distributor.

No, never ... but I just found his shop's LACo website ... seems it offers comprehensive services.

I dunno J&S ign either ... stumbled on their site and saw GG near your range.

Checkout one of their videos that show a vaccum connection on bottom side of the distributor. The electronics follows the vaccum signal and you can to use it or not.

I am all for this if it's
1)Reliable
2)Tach drive gearing is decent quality

I like HP as much as anyone, but a car that breaks down on the road just sucks.

Mike, Vista is halfway to San Diego from here. Sounds like a field trip to me.
I would love to test one and examine it apart, or assembled there in house.

Ahh, I missed the connection. Couldn't figure out how they did it with a stand alone distributor and no TPS or anything like that for signal.

this looks like a really good idea. Wonder how well the electronics will put up with the heat.

not willing to pop $450 to find out unless it’s warranted against failure for a good while.

I read elsewhere you can completely disable the ignition with your smart phone and use it as a security device. That really sounded cool.

OTOH Our car has one of, if not the hottest underhood temperatures around. Especially the big blocks. I'd be concerned about the electronics not liking 175-200 degree temps.

i would think you still need throttle position sensor.

That's what I thought too but 69427 and Mike both pointed out there is a vacuum connection on the distributor but it's an electronic pickup signal and not a can on the distributor. Since vacuum advance is controlled by your right foot and isn't programmed, I also thought you would need a TPS but a vacuum line would not only be simpler but a nice idea. Vacuum signal, electronic programmable pickup.

Blue tooth is often glitchy even in the best of conditions, how’s it gonna fair under less than ideal conditions like extreme heat.
when I turn the key I want my vette to start and run, which it does now. Give blue tooth a chance and I’d bet money it will fail you.
like I said a good idea but I don’t think the reliability is gonna be there.

How does bluetooth enter into the picture once the timing is set?
Are you going to have your phone BT connected to the distributor while you are driving?
