Trying to take off the D/P Triangle head latch pins to clean them up to reuse. The plate they are part of comes loose fairly easy by the two screws attaching each to the upper inside door from. There is a plate behind the door frame that I do not want to have drop either. The Triangle head latch pin looks like it should screw out but does not want to move. After spraying some WD-40 on it, what is the best tool to use to try and screw it out since the head is triangular shaped?
The triangle plate WILL screw completely out of the backing plate, if you get corrosion penetrant to it. So that you don't drop the backing plates into the "pit of DOOM", remove one of the retaining screws and loosen the other; then rotate the outside plate so that you can re-insert the screw to hold the backing plate in place. Now remove the other screw and "do your thing"!
If you need the other screw to be out, also, just use another dummy screw to insert and hold the plate, instead of the regular screw.
Thanks, I also do want to take the plate off to clean up and this fills in the blanks.
the plate is held in there by a steel cage that's rivetted onto some structural fibreglass , to get at those rivets , you have to cut away some of the structure.
Good news is if you cut it neatly you Can reglass the patch on an also the area is covered by the trim pieces as well so no one will see.
