Default Maximum oil level in the pan

Hi,
I want check if my dipstick shows propper oil level.
Where should the maximum level be at?

I guess it should remain under the lowest point of the gaskets, maybe more depending on the crank.

What size pan, i.e. how many quarts or liters does it hold.?
Fill it with the correct amount and check.

Should be under the windage tray. Fill it with the recommended amount of liquid and install dipstick and mark dipstick. Not necessary to use oil.

Just up to the baffle inside the pan......anything more will just slosh around like crazy.

There was an interesting Engine Masters television episode awhile back titled "How Oil Kills Power". They ran an engine on a dyno with various oil levels to see if overfilling caused a loss of horsepower. It did. But, somewhere in that episode, they gave instructions on how to determine the proper oil level. Leigh's method sounds like the same instructions. Might be worth finding that episode and viewing it if you want additional confirmation.

I want to carry as much oil as possible.
This pan is advertised with 6qts.
It will replace my Milodon pan, which is 1" deeper and hangs out under the car.
Had several ground contacts, car is lowered a bit. Now i go for stock dept with this Moroso pan.
In the Milodon pan I could only fill around 5 Liters.
Now this one takes less, 4,5 Liters for a 502 engine sounds to less, doesn´t it?
With the old original oil pan it wasn´t more either. That´s why I thought there could be a wrong dipstick in it.

Here is where the original dip stick comes out.
1" under the lowest point of the gasket is the full marking.

Because this pan come with 1/4NPT thread I had to make a fitting do work with the original pipe.

There is a compressable O-ring inside. I hope it wont leak
I will fill some Water into the pan and see how much it can take, good idea.
I think I can fill the pan until the "L" of the Full marking.

ok, this ist the level with 6 liters in it. So 6qts should come out at the full marking.
Everything alright.

Take your measurements from the oil pan mounting surface on the block sides. Measure down to determine bottom of crank throws. Should be below the windage tray if you have one, if not needs to have clearance from crank and rods so it doesn't pick up oil and start whipping it around. If it is too high you will see oil pressure drop off at higher RPM's. I had an issue with an aftermarket dip stick and 7 quart pan showed the pressure drop problem and it broke off small parts of the pan gasket that were sticking out inside the pan block joint. If you have a stock oil pan and dip stick, measure down from the block surface to determine proper level.
