Default tachometer pointer / needle issue

On my 1981, I purchased a new tachometer board and tack pointer / needle.

Board went in without a hitch.

When I took off the old tachometer pointer / needle it took a bit of a tug to get it off the pin.

The tachometer pointer / needle has a hole that goes in the pin of the gauge that it rotates on.

When I put the new tachometer pointer / needle in the pin, it is not snug at all, I wouldn’t even call it tight in any way.

It seems that the diameter of the hole on the pointer is a little bigger than the width of the pin. If I turn the gauge upside down the pin just drops out.

I have reset the tachometer pointer a number of times but it won’t hold zero and I suspect it’s because it is not tight to the pin.

I’m thinking that there has to be something that holds the tachometer pointer snug to the pin?

Any insight would be helpful.

The 'hub' of that needle should have a split in it so that the hub can 'grow' a bit when fitting over the shaft. If there is more of a gap at that split, you my have to carefully squeeze the hub to reduce the hole size in it. Then there should be a tighter fit on the shaft. If that isn't your problem, you will have to decide if there is a way to "modify" something to make it work, or you call the vendor and see if they have any suggestions for you. That's a new one on me.....
