Pulled off Plastic light lenses for all for tail lights. Discovered all bulbs are rusted into the sockets. Replacing all 4 sockets and will splice into existing wiring. All four new sockets are 3 wire (two at or near center back of socket and 1 wire near the side on the back). The two existing backup bulb sockets are only 2 wire.
On the new backup bulb sockets, do I use one center and one side as with the existing socket? and if so, does it matter which center wire I use?
And it looks like the bulbs are 1157s, correct?
I believe your vette (77???) only the outside lights are 1157 with two center contacts, it has the running lights and the direction / turn-signals
The inner lights only had the back-up lights, single contact in the center 1156 bulb

The above is true. However you can use your duel contact socket with the 1157 bulb for your backups. The outside wire is the ground wire. Hook that up first. To the black wire. Then to determine which of the 2 center wires to use. (Yes it makes a difference). Put the car in reverse. Turn the car on but don't start it. Crawl under the car and temporarily connect one of the 2 center wires then crawl out from underneath the car and see how bright it is. Back under the car and temporarily connect the other center wire. Check how bright it is. The brighter one is the one you wish to permanently hook up. Tape the other one off.
