Standard L46 350 small block. I'm going to replace my high volume oil pump with a standard pump. The pump is not the problem to find but anywhere I call says there are about 3 or 4 different screens. No discerning information telling me why or what the differences are. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, any tips on making it easier to do? I'm told the pan can be dropped without moving the engine. Car has Power steering also. I know you can drop the idler arm down and it helps.
What pan are you using? If it is the GM Corvette pan you need the Corvette pickup available from many Corvette part suppliers. They know what you will need.

What is the difference between a Vette pan pick-up and other std SBC pick-ups? (not counting Novas)

? confused Which Pan ? Which year Pan ? From what L46, L48, LT1, L82 ?
In this thread you're working on an L46 (only 1969 & 1970) ... but in previous thread you're working on a 1972.
There are several Melling pickups for their pumps ...
You can call Melling Tech (517) 787- 8172 ext 2506 ... they know what they're talking about, and they will help you, and they will quickly call you back if they're busy.

Sorry, its a 1972 K so I believe its still called a L46 isn't it?
I will call melling as the parts stores say there are different pickups for this application. Parts jockeys.
I called Melling again and they dont make the pickup. They told me to call Egge's machine. They were the most helpful of anyone! They had the pickup and pump options down to a T! Less than $50 for both.
Some of these smaller companies are sooo much better than the large companies.
Egge's 866-586-3443
Now, any tips on removing the oil pan? I know how to remove the pan just havent done one on a corvette small block, 1972.
That looks like the correct one. I got mine from EGGE'S. Super helpful staff.
I'm now looking for advice on how to make the job easier, tips if you will.

LOL....Egge....haven't heard that name in a long time!
One piece gasket
Drop the drag link
Use an ARP 12pt stainless bolt set
IS55 steel shaft with steel sleeve
Use an ARP oil stud (get rid of the bolt for the oil pump)
Use the open end of a 5/8" and slip it around oil pump tube til you get to the flange. Have the pump in a sturdy vice. Use a hammer to tap the pickup in....hitting the side of the wrench close to the tube. Braze or weld the whole circumference so no movement or air can get sucked through.
Install shaft on pump and slide over stud......tighten down nut with moly to 25 ft/lbs
Reinstall pan with one piece Fel Pro gasket.....see Summit racing or equivilant for part numbers.....it will be either drivers side or passenger side dipstick.
The 12pt ARP bolts make it easy to get a 12pt socket on for clearance and stainless looks that way forever.
I forgot to mention that the oil pickup needs to be 3/4" off of the bottom of the pan. Since the gasket is 1/4"......you can do the required measurement off the pan rail and subtract 1/4"
Also....a dab of RTV in the corners where the gasket meets the rear main cap and front timing cover, and where the gasket meets the pan is good practice. Tighten the larger 4 corner screws first then do the sides off the center going outward.
Moroso Oil Pan Stud kit. ($29) Greatest invention since sliced bread.
With all those studs sticking out of the block, it couldn't get any easier to line-up the gasket and pan. You can see exactly where you have to go with the pan.
Hold the pan up with one hand, start a couple nuts with the other. EASY!
