Moroso Oil Pan Stud kit. ($26) Greatest invention since sliced bread.
With all those studs sticking out of the block, it couldn't get any easier to line-up the gasket and pan. You can see exactly where you have to go with the pan.
Hold the pan up with one hand, start a couple nuts with the other. EASY!
The stud kit is nice.....but Moroso does not make them in stainless....ARP does though....
Ya, I saw that on Summit. But Black Oxide hardware works wonderful too at half the cost, ARPs were $62.
Work well but look like rusted **** in 6 months.......been there, done that......just average garage condensation will make them rust. Maybe insignificant to some but I generally detail my engines to the 9's and it is like an Armani suit with rusty $5 cufflinks after a while....in fact, every fastener on my engine including the head bolts is stainless. Head bolts are visable from the top so this is a horrible OCD thing for me.....
I forgot to mention that the oil pickup needs to be 3/4" off of the bottom of the pan. Since the gasket is 1/4"......you can do the required measurement off the pan rail and subtract 1/4"
Also....a dab of RTV in the corners where the gasket meets the rear main cap and front timing cover, and where the gasket meets the pan is good practice. Tighten the larger 4 corner screws first then do the sides off the center going outward.
My bad.....not enough coffee.....
Moroso specs .250 to .500.
I have run up to .750 on a high revving big block......as to not create a vortex in the bottom of the pan.
