Default Door mirrors

Hello all,

digging into my 77 a little more I’ve identified a few of the larger ticket items that are going to take a little time to work through, but the most annoying thing I have noticed while driving this is the side mirrors will not stay where I set them. The ball joint in the back of the mirror is extremely loose and anytime I get moving over 25-30 the mirrors fall down and point straight at the ground and they become basically useless. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there supposed to be a seal or anything around that ball joint? Would simply spraying some degreaser on the ball tighten it up? Any ideas?

Aren't all 77 mirrors sport mirrors??? I thought so. Anyway. Had to replace a broken glass on the right once. Other than that. Never had a problem with mine. (77 also).

The dual sport mirrors were an option in 77 but std mirrors were the norm...well that's my understanding, trying to tight up the sport mirrors seem almost impossible...I just bought a new one

Super glue. One drop at a time, drop in and move the mirror around to work it onto the ball to build it up. That's what I did after finding the recommendation on some old threads here.

Captain Morgan,

thanks, I think I will give that a try. My only other alternative I have found is buying new mirrors.

This from the NCRS forum: https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthread.php?88889-73-Outside-Rear-View-Mirror-Repair
There's an article in the NCRS archives on tightening up the C2 mirror but the link has become 404. Not the same style of mirror but the same design.

Other folks reported success with superglue once the mirror is in position but that limits the mirror's use for anyone else.

I use a spray adhesive, and it works for quite a while. I suspect that using superglue is like my spray adhesive, it doesn't actually glue the mirror in one place, it just provides enough friction that the mirror doesn't vibrate loose.
