I bought a nice frame to put under my 69 , but it's in Ga. and I'm in Pa. I'm having a hard time talking myself into going and getting it. Does any one have any experience shipping these things ? Bare frame with front suspension would weigh what ?? 400 lbs ? Any shipping advice ?

bolt a body on it and drive it... the size is more an issue than the weight. yellow freight or roadway. call and talk to them. set it up terminal to terminal. probly have to have flatbeds run frame to and from the terminal. or uhaul trailers. i think they have capability to pick frame up off or drop it on a trailer. although your best bet is hit the road...

There are u bid it sites that you post what you want moved and people bid on doing it. I sold a 8000# sailboat to a guy in Oklahoma City and he found someone to tow it from Cincinnati to his home in 24 hours. There are retired people with pickups and trailers that will bid to haul it.
That would be ideal. One of my problems with going to get is that I don't know if the motels are open down there and I don't really like sleeping in a pickup truck.
Take a look at your route, get an idea of time to various locations (particularly the times you'd like to stop for the night) Call motels in those areas as well as 1/2 hour or so away. Plan your trip accordingly.
when I sold my MCM hood to a member in VA I rented a PU truck and drove it up there...it seemed ridiculous but it was actually cheaper than I thought....secure the thing in the bed and park it up front..tip the night desk clerk to leave it up there
Yea, I know. The good thing is gas is cheap, the bad thing is it will make 2 looong days. I don't think this will fit in my 6' truck bed, I would have to pull my trailer that needs new tires.
Is it a rolling chassis? Or a bare frame. If it is a rolling chassis, bring tires with and rent a tow dolly from U-haul.
I'm sharing these insights because I recently missed an opportunity for a part that I wanted but hesitated because I couldn't commit to a timeline as to when I could take the 2 or 3 day trip to get it.
Once I found the time that I could make the trip, the part was no longer available.
Personally if it were me I would put new tires on the trailer, grease the spindles, and get on the road to get it. Personally I would sleep in my truck at this junction. Even if hotels are open how well sanitized are things? I wouldn't want anything to do with a roadside hotel at this junction. While I'm not a high risk candidate and accepted long ago that I'm gonna catch this crap at some point you don't need to go looking for trouble.....
That's good advice. I went through throat cancer couple yrs ago, don't know if that puts me in the high risk category or not but I get a warm fuzzy feeling staying at home working on my Vette's every day . I need this frame though. I just bought a barn find 69 vert that sat on a dirt floor with a bad roof. Sat for 37 yrs. It's a mess but I know I can save it.
If the frame isn't rolling you could rent a Uhaul car trailer for the return trip. Strap down the frame to the wheel rails. Just tell Uhaul you are trailing a 69 Corvette.
what you are really gonna be mad at ,is when you get it home ,and find out later there was one less then sixty miles from your house!
Can’t do anything about Murphy’s law. That happens to all of us at one time or another. Just gotta make a decision and not second guess/look back on it.
Yea, I've been bitten by Murphy's law a number of times. There was a beautiful 76 frame on Craigslist for weeks , I bought this car called about the frame and it was sold the day before! Aint that how it works !!! Best quote so far was just under a grand. Still looking ,but I did buy 4 new trailer tires today.
I was in Las Vegas during 911 at a trade show. We (three of us) drove back to MN in 27 hours. It sucked. I was so happy get out of that SUV. With today's things going on I would call a head to mid or upper range hotels to see what is available. I know its not the same today but I spent 36 years traveling for work and never had a problem with catching anything from a hotel room. I can't believe that all good hotels aren't cleaner now than they have been since they were built.
