Installed a new power steering system about a month ago. We have driven around 10 miles since then with no issues. All of a sudden, when pulling into the driveway, the hose connected to the power steering pump came off at the pump. We reattached the hose, filled up the pump with fluid, and began turning the wheels with the car running so we could get more fluid in the system. Upon locking the wheels out to the right, the slave cylinder shaft shot off the gromet, washer, and the castle nut. The castle nut and the cylinder shaft lost all of their threads. What could have caused this "explosion"? Did we calibrate the power steering incorrectly? Never really have seen or heard of anything like this before.
did you raise the front of the car and center the wheels with the power steering control valve ,, theres a small end cap on it you have to take off and adjust the nut with the motor running if you dont do this the car will pull left or right and over pressure the system
one more thing dont hold the steeringwheel when you start the car it might jerk so hard it will break your arm ,, no joke
you can run a die down the shaft and reuse the cyilinder

yeah we ran a die to save the shaft. Also had it calibrated while up in the air. Thinking it may be something with the return hose, as we had no problems prior to it falling off. Going to double check the orientation of the hose later today.
