Default Play in Borgeson steering

I just installed the Borgeson power steering on my 72 vette, Replacing the power steering. I have slack in my steering that I wasn’t expecting to have. I’ve checked it and it’s in the box itself. It’s approximately 1 1/2 inches each direction before it catches the steering. You can see it in this video. Is there something I need to do or is the box bad?

Well that certainly looks like way too much movement.

Is it a brand new box?
Did you touch either of the adjuster screws on installation? One on the top, and the huge Tab-screw around the steering shaft?
I also see 1/8-1/4" movement where the pitman arm stud connects to the center-link arm. Is that properly installed / tightened?

Brand new box. I didn’t notice the movement at the pitman arm until you pointed it out. I’ll check in that. But I do believe there is too much play in the box.

Borgeson was closed when I tried to call them. I’ll try again Tuesday.

thanks

Good idea to call them before making any adjustments. So they can't claim it was 'damaged by owner'.

Hope you get it resolved.

If you didn't bump anything already I would not touch it until you talk to them.

Have you driven it yet? It may not be as bad as you think.
and

Try to get a better movie of what is going on down at the pitman arm.

As others have said see if you can get a video from below with the rag joint and pitman arm in view as someone else moves the steering wheel the same amount each way.

When I did mine the rag joint to double D shaft size was off. The sent me another box. But of course that was before tightening the rag join to the double D shaft.

A good video you can send to their tech support team is really helpful. The borgeson guys are very helpful.

Maybe compare the movement to your old box and rag joint as a side by side to ease or confirm your situation. The new box should be a closer ratio compare to the old. I think old box was 4 turns lock to lock whereas the Borgeson is like 3 + I believe.

Have you run the engine and purged the air from the system? What is the steering like moving up and down the driveway or your street?
I have a borgeson unit on my 78 with 50K and 8 plus years.
