Default please help me with headers.

Hey guys I have been searching this site for a bit now. I cannot find a definitive answer. I traded my father in law for his 77 vette. It's an all stock. Original 77 l82 90k miles. I'm wanting to install some headers but I cannot find ones that will allow the oil filter r be removed. Not looking to spend a fortune this is just temp until I LS swap in this winter. Also what would yall recommend for intake, heads and carb.

I appreciate it
Chris

Why bother swapping in headers for one season? Save up for your LS conversion.

Otherwise, I wasn't aware of any headers that blocked access to the oil filter. Is that a thing? My sidepipe headers make (almost) everything easier to work on.

Please post some photos!

if you are determined to do headers for 1 summer, change the oil filter first. oil filters are good for more mileage than you are gonna do this summer. plus, you don't need highest quality longest lasting headers with new ceramic coating. go on facebook marketplace and get a 50 buck set...

apparently its a thing when you go to reviews on summit when you click on some of the headers. But yeah i just want it to sound good. She's getting an overhaul this year. Just gotta figure out how to LS swap. Doing research now

Ah ! There's the problem. Reading wishy-washy reviews. Its not the headers, its the header owner who doesn't know how to do oil changes. Or you could suspect that reviewer had the extra-long cartridge.

I have never heard of a header interfering with the oil filter removal. That would be a horrible design and a short lived company.

Any long tube header I have ever seen for a C2 or C3 requires a short filter, but that is it. You can get it out.

,, ,,, ,, seems to me from what you have said,, all you need to do this summer is cut off the existing mufflers, and it will "SOUND GOOD" ,,,,so dont waste cash and time on what you'll be trashing in six months,

I have a "seat belt" style oil filter tool that fits pretty much anywhere. Worth every penny regardless of the engine it is being used on.

If you are going to swap a LS in, I would not waste the money on headers. I can say however that the Hooker Super comps have no issues with the oil filter.

Depends on what you buy

Not Hooker S/C 1 3/4

Not my 1 7/8th stainless

Not older my headman 1 5/8th
I use the tall Wix or K&N one quart filters

Here you go. I had some of these on my 68 ages ago. Fit just fine and the oil filter does also (and I've never seen anything about them being redesigned). I've been through a couple other exhaust headers since and I am now back to RamHorn exhausts manifolds. BUT, anyway, these fit well but you still have to tie in to the remainder of your exhaust system. These are relatively cheap but if I was planning an LS future then I would not even bother.

So you mean you don't have to use a short filter? I have circa 1990 Hedman 1 5/8" units and I have to run the short "PF25" style filter......mines a Wix.

My 79 l-82 Got Hedmans circa 1980 and I always ran larger filters just for the extra oil volume. Memory is kinda faded, but it seemed to me that Hedmans QA wasn't very good back then because one collector was probably an inch higher on one side because I remember doing the true duals and they looked dorky from side view. I don't remember which side.
