Hello, new 74 C3 owner. What filter do I need to use in my 500HP rater 400 turbo automatic transmission? Pretty sure she's a 3 speed if thats relevant.
From: At my Bar drinking and wrenching in Lafayette Colorado
The stock, standard TH400 filter. Your estimated hp is irrelevant, and all '74 automatic TH400's are 3-speeds. NAPA part number ATP 19701 for about $15. Includes the pan gasket.

Yes!! I’ve seen videos and walkthroughs but seeing it written is very nice.
Thank you both so much! And, depending on tomorrow’s weather. I may be tackling this tomorrow! Along with my rear differential, power steering, coolant, and maybe engine oil.
I will add that I will use only rubber pan gaskets.......and I tighten the bolts for the pan with a 1/4" air ratchet set at 40psi. This assures you will not over tighten them and works perfect everytime. A little trick a Jeep trans mechanic showed me in the 90's at the dealer I worked at......perfect for stamped steel pans. Speaking of the stamped steel pan, make sure the bolt holes are flat and not taped out along the sealing face......tapered out holes are 100% overtightening.
