Gauges Issue
working on my 1977 that I recently purchased. When I bought it, only the fuel gauge was working, and the low fuel light was always on. The battery gauge would move, but was not accurate, the temperature gauge would also move, but the needle would simply go all the way to the right as soon as the car was turned on and stay there. Oil pressure gauge and the clock do not move at all.
The previous owner told me he thought it was an issue with the printed circuit board, (he claimed that the board was completely “roached” when he looked at it.) He gave me a new circuit board that he had ordered and just hadn’t gotten around to putting in.
So, I pulled the center console apart to replace the circuit board and found that the existing circuit board, looked fine, none of the connections were fried or damaged, at least that I could tell. I went ahead and replaced the circuit board.
Now, the fuel gauge, water temp gauge, and oil pressure gauge do not work at all, the check engine light is on and the battery gauge moves, but is still not accurate (brand new battery a week ago.) and the clock doesn’t work still. (Attached is a picture of what the gauges look like now, once I start the car.)
please let me know what the best way to go about diagnosing the root cause is? My thought I’d that it could be an issue with the wiring harness leading up to the board, or the gauges are somehow all on the fritz. Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
