Default HEI ignition module fails at high temp??

Hello!

I have this issue with my C3 -74 that it randomly stops when I have been driving for a while in hot weather.
It just stops like that, no sputtering just a "clean" stop...when it stops I just let it roll to the side of the road and then I just start it up again and it would work fine for the rest of the ride....
Anyone else had a similar problem and the fault was found in the HEI ignition module??
IF that ignition module overheats will it cool down that fast (about 30 sec.) and the work fine again for a long time??

It is possible but also can be a collapsed hose back by the fuel tank to the steel line..........if it quits again, keep a spark tester in the car and roll it over, if it does not light, then yes.....the module may be getting hot. The module is cooled by the distributor housing and a smooth coating of heat sink grease is necessary for proper heat transfer. If it does spark, then remove the air cleaner and crack the throttle a few times to see if you are getting accel pump squirt......if not, then it is fuel supply of course.

Sounds like you swapped out your points distributor for hei? GM or after market hei? Some of the after market (china) hei distributors have marginal modules. Not sure if there are any USA made modules these days!

All the way to 75* F?! Brrrrrr... that's cold to us here in AZ, yesterday and today was 112*F and this is only 1 June. Ugh! It looks like it's going to be a hot summer this year.
