Gary, you will appreciate this. Supposedly rebuilt box. New seals, stuffed with grease, and wrong preloads. Gotta love it.
My only question is what grease you using these days?
Oh, and the coupling had one wrong shaft bolt.
Bird, I can't see any pictures on this PC but I will look later. I thought you had one of my boxes and were working on it but you just have the common "rebuilt" box people pay good money for and get what you see. I see it all the time. I use Lucas HD Green grease now, it doesn't seem to separate out like other greases and works fine.
Now what are you using for bushings? I have mine made to my spec and then size them per sector.
The Bairs kit. This sector shaft is very good. Gears are great.
I just flagged your name to get a response.
I will press in the hard parts and fetch some grease.
That red crap seeps out.
Do the kits even come with the cover bushings anymore? the ones I see do not.
Nope. I do not recall ever needing to change one. I may have some left.
Thread file fixed the shaft, but the nut is buggered.
Who is a good source for that nut?
The new nuts are thicker then the originals. They should be ok with an original sector, sometimes I machine them to the stock size. A good hardware store, industrial supply or McMaster Carr will have them.
