Have a '77 with around 10.5 compression and a old starter / solenoid. Its been heat-soaked so many times and even with a starter blanket / shield, it gets hot from the headers.
So its time for anew.
Looking at reasonable priced starters, stock looking style. Not interested in mini starters or clocking units or rebuilt cheap crap at this time.
I don't need or want a $300 starter, unless Trump sends me another check.
So, looking at Bosch and looking at Power-Master. About $180.
Anybody using those two?
If you insist on not upgrading to a proper starter, check with any Rebuilder in your town and get yours rebuilt. Or get a 50 Buck rebuilt from AutoZone. For the same approximate year Chevy truck with a 350 in it. It is a 3510 in rebuilder's terms.

No rebuilders within 200 miles.
I see starters for less than $100. But its one of those parts that will leave you stranded with no way of repairing on the side of the road.
Looking for a new unit, medium price range with no bad reviews.
Well, the price is right. A little concerned about the poster in Q. & A. that said the wiring harness will not reach that style of solenoid.
I have installed it on 6 different Chevrolet's...82' full size 454 truck, three Corvette's (one 427, the 66' in the Avatar and my 72' 406) , 69 Chevelle, and an 89' K5 Blazer....with no issues......and not one shim on any of them.
Your cheap choice is a new solenoid and 4 brushes for the old one. But unless you find a brown cap solenoid, the heat soak will continue.
Man...when I was young, working my first job at a local parts store (17 years old), we used to keep those ceramic style hi-heat solenoids under the counter in a box. Be damned if i can find one now, but I don't use the big starters on anything anymore anyway.....
I used Summits advance search. Clicked on 10:1 comp ratio and that starter disappeared from the list.
I have 10.4 C.R. I know the cylinders bleed off some with cam overlap.
But those 6 vehicles you listed have high C.R too?
My own 406 is 10.5 to 1....the 69' 427/400 was 10.5 to 1......the 66' L-79 was 10 to 1......Chevelle 468 was 10.25 to 1....K5 Blazer was a 355 Blueprint 385 Crate Engine...9.5 to 1 I think....the 461 in the 82' truck was 9 to 1.
