Default Flywheel Advice

I am doing a M20 swap for my '77, which originally had a TH350. As I am looking at flywheels, I am realizing that there is a really wide range of weights. I am running a 380 hp 350 with a 3.36 rear end. I don't want a cheap Chinesium flywheel, but I can't afford anything crazy expensive either. What would you guys recommend and have you guys ever wished you went heavier or lighter? I'd really appreciate clutch suggestions too. Thanks in advance for the help guys, this forum is really great!

Diameters matter even more than Black Olives ...flexplates/flywheels have either 153 teeth (straight starter bolt pattern) or 168 teeth (staggered starter bolt pattern) ...

Stock flywheel is about 30 lbs. With a 350 you will probably want to stay with the stock weight for driveability. The lighter flywheel will allow the car to accelerate more quickly but you'll find yourself riding the clutch off the line a little more. With a bigger motor its less of an issue.

With a 350 and 3.36 gears you want to stick with a standard weight flywheel no lighter. I was going to build a smaller cu. Engine and have a steel SFI 36lb flywheel and i was certainly not going to use 3.36 rear gearing. You dont have to have a high dollar clutch for what you describe, just use a 168 tooth flywheel 11 inch pressure plate if you have the correct bellhousing for the 11 inch. Lightweight flywheels best reason to use one if you were road racing where the cars mass of weight is already rolling at speed and the engine is constantly needing to chang rpm.

I have a complete McLeod setup. Went with a 15 lb flywheel and it was fine for the last 2 summers. Search Lars observations on McLeod clutches and flywheels if you want a second opinion
