Hey all,
I found this wire about to break up by my wiper motor. It has two heavy gauge red wires going to a rubber coated connector that has a much thinner wire coming out of the other end and is about to break. I want to replace it but I'm not sure if this is some hack electrical work or if that's from the factory. I haven't been able to trace either end of where it's going because it's so fragile I don't want to pull on it. Anyone have any information on it? Can I just cut it out and solder in new wire? Is it a fusible link? Any idea where it goes?
Thanks in advance.
Do a SEARCH on "fusible link". There was a recent thread which will have all the necessary info to recreate a PROPER fusible link, if you can't find one at NAPA. Most of the national chain stores have Chinese junk that they pass off as fusible links. No thanks!!
You can pick up fusible links at Autozone. Solder it in, Use heat shrink at the soldered joints to get good coverage. Hopefully you have someone available to teach you how to solder leads and use heat-shrink. It's well worth knowing when owning these old cars.
