Could someone tell me if the distributor position is ok?
it is at 12 degrees, right at the top of the indicator up front.
and seems to be 36 degrees when it stops around moving.
one origonal spring and one gold one. Should the can be
that far to the rear. Here’s a pic thanks for your help.

As far as the can goes, yes, it was actually a service bulletin change so the tach cable entered at a better angle than the typical orientation where it's pointing in front of the shield bracket like on most cars.
Where the number 1 plug wire is on the cap is not important

There appear to be two questions in the OP's post.
One concerns the position of the vacuum advance which is correct.
The other question appears to be about timing, the reference to the 12 and 36 and the two advance springs.
The recommended starting combination on the springs is one black and one silver from the Mr Gasket 928G kit.
There should not be an original GM spring to gain the 36 total at about 3K.

Is that the stock distributor?
Are you using the stock weights?
The gold springs were new from a 928G kit?
You are using a dial back timing light or a taped or scribed balancer?
The 36 is with vacuum disconnected?

James -
Everything looks good - numbers and distributor/wire position is good. Use any combination of springs (sometimes the stock ones are OK) to get that 36 total "all-in" around 2800 - 3000 on a street car. It's usually OK if it's a little quicker than that, but don't bring in the full total any faster than 2500 rpm.

Hi neighbor, thanks for looking. Sometime we should meet it sounds like
you know more about this car than I do. I would like someone to drive it
that knows how it should run. It’s pretty good ,I think with hat m21
trans sometimes it is hard to pull out.

We probably did meet. I only take my car to the Dorman and Whitpain Police/MCCC shows. Anytime you want to come over, you are welcome. Just let me know when.

Yes that is definately too quick and will actually also cause you unstable idle problems because the advance will actually already be moving at idle, and then it fluctuates.
2500-3000 is best. And ZERO movement until slightly above idle. (couple hundred.)
