When you turn the key to the ON position, you should hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds to pressurize the system. I would check that first,
If it does run for the 2 seconds, then you need to check fuel pressure,,,,should be 9-12 psi.
I had the same thing happen to mine. The fuel pump was good but would not run. I took it to a shop and they said the MAP sensor was bad and replaced it. I will try to find the work order to verify it, but I believe that is what I was told.
Just how in the H are you "Priming fuel injectors". Are you spraying fuel down the Throttle body???
if the ECU isn't getting a tach read at cranking speeds it wont trigger the injectors.
Either low fuel pressure or bad pickup coil in the distributor. Check fuel pressure first.....you need about 10-13 psi for it to function properly. If pressure is good, replace the distributor as the pickup coil replacement is a bit of a job that requires a strong skill set. The pickup coil fires the injectors and is a common failure point of GM CFI/TBI.
Also, a severely stretched timing chain can cause this as well........the injectors have to be in time with the engine, that is how it works.
I just checked the work order on mine. I agree it doesn’t make sense, but the work order had them checking the MAP circuit and replacing the MAP sensor. My fuel pump would not work with the key on and they told me the problem with the MAP sensor was causing this. Whatever it was, they replaced the sensor and it ran and I was happy!
If any sensor in the circuit has a short in that 5 volt reference circuit, it can lock up the ECM. So, it is possible for the MAP to cause a no start problem.
Well. we can debate the issue without even seeing the car, but the replacement of the Map fixed the car. Give the repair shop a kudos for an accurate diagnosis.
