Default Droopy Inside Mirror

:cry What is it with my car and its mirrors lately? I've needed sideview mirrors for awhile. I figured now that my car is operational and is getting worked on more and more, I figured I would ask. Now my inside mirror is too droopy. No matter how hard I tighten the set-screw, the ball and socket decide the mirror is too heavy and it flops down.
What are remedies to this? I was thinking of biting the bullet and buying a mirror that attaches to the inside of the front glass. I'd hate to do that though because I like having the ball and socket system which doesn't leave a mess on the windshield.

Do I need a new interior mirror? Do I only need a new mounting plate? Should I buy all of the above? What should I look for to make my mirror stay steady? Thanks to all who input...

I picked one up at Autozone that went right on the stock mount hassle free.

I know the feeling. Everytime I adjust it at a red light, and take off when it turn green the inside mirror is pointing to a new direction. If I had a dollar for everytime I cuss it out I would rich. Thought about ripping it off and throwing it out the window. :chevy

My 82 original was loose.

I went and picked up a "new" rearview mirror from a junkyard 95 Pontiac Sunfire. It is slightly smaller and black and mounts up to the GM mount without a problem. $5 out the door looks great and does not bounce around.

If you want to get fancy, you can try to find a GM mirror that has map lights on it or even the EC mirror that auto-dims with bright lights on it from a newer GM vehicle. You will have to run a power wire to the mirror dfrom your top windsheild trim though.

In my opinion, these newer mirrors look a lttle nicer than the older larger mirrors, and it takes up less windshield space.

Might make it a little hard to adjust! :D

I've had some luck with my outside mirror using loctite. Just squirted it around the edges of the socket, and it wicked in onto the ball. When it set, most of the floppyness was gone, though it still goes down at 80+ MPH.

JB WELD???      Yeah, like JB said, Adjusting? We don't need no stinking adjusting! While it's true that so far I am the only one who drives the car, it would be niiiice if I could let someone else drive the car and adjust the mirror to their needs.
Suggestions on new mirrors; Do they utilize the ball and socket already in place? That idea about taking one out of a Sunfire sounds like a good idea. Hopefully the owner won't miss it too much  OOOOHH, you mean find one in a junkyard? Yeah I guess I could do that. Thanks for the sympathy and the help.

I might have to try that...... I have to occasionally adjust the outside mirror when I am driving, and it ALWAYS is way out of adjustment after the 1/4 mile :) I guess 102 mph will do that, but it would be nice if it stayed in place. MJ
