Default 1972 Wiring mystery

I cannot figure out where this wire went. I cannot find the other end or where it might go. I’ve looked at wiring diagrams with no luck. Everything works except the recirculation setting which is vacuum operated. This is on a 1972 350 with AC and all. I’m at the point of taping it up as everything works and it’s been that way since 1985 at least when I bought the car back.

I'm guessing it's the orange one that's cut there. Can use see where it goes once it's behind the vac-hose? looks like electrical taped to the black wire. Is it spliced into something or does it keep going

No clue. Tape it over until you discover its purpose....

You sure this is a factory AC car?

Reason I ask .. only wires that are orange and black and ran over together by the pass firewall in the factory IGN harness were the Orange fan motor wire and black ground that daisy chained up to the wiper motor for grounding and down to the starter bolt. Or maybe the factory IGN harness has the heater fan power wire and it was just hidden somehow. I didnt have AC so I couldnt tell you the orange wire was there on a factory AC car.

Your AC fan motor should have a purple / violet wire for the blower motor if memory serves.

Yes it’s a factory air car. I have the build sheet and owned the car since 75

I would agree there's very little as far as Orange wires in the engine bay and the only one over in that area, at least on my 72, is for the heater

Now that Orange one got replaced with a Purple on with the A/C so it's possible they just snipped it off although I can't see any reference to that in the schematic

Well I know I never cut mine. I will get my assembly manual out but it seems odd that they would just cut it. But......stranger things have happened. Thank everyone!

I guess it kinda makes sense at this point. Once the AC harness is installed that orange wire would be dead because it would have been disconnected from the fan switch and resistor for the non AC setup in lieu of the AC harness fan switch wire that would now be purple out at the fan.

maybe it wasn’t worth it to GM to make up two IGN harnesses for just one wire.
