The PCV system helps seal the oil rings and is important not just for emissions. The system should use full manifold vacuum through a check valve to vent crankcase gasses from a high spot in the sealed crankcase. Usually the high spot is a valve cover. If you are drawing oil into the system then you can install a catch can.
