I just finished upgrading my 1979 with a monster transmission rebuilt 700r4 and a new 350 gm crate engine. The dust shield monster provided fits but the 168 tooth flywheel rubs on the inside of the plastic dust shield. The bolt holes on metal dust shield I got don’t line with transmission. Monster hasn’t given me a solution to finding a dust shield that fits. Has anyone who upgraded their c3 to the 700r4 have an issue with finding a dust shield that would fit?
the instructions for this shield give bolt hole specs to compare to the transmission, they State it changes over the years and might require modification to fit
Went through similar situation with my new 2004R trans and cheap ebay dust cover. Ultimately had to do some minor trimming It was plastic), and slotting of the bolt holes. 168 fly wheel
I'm fighting a similar issue.... my 700R4 case was originally in a truck and hence requires a different
(cast aluminum opposed to stamped steel) dust/converter cover.... the transmission shop hacked up a steel
dust cover and made it fit but it looks awful.
I'm on the hunt for an affordable aluminum cover now.
My dear old Dad used to say you’re going to take a rock off the road and poke a hole in the convertor. Shoots down that theory....

Been driving on normal roads for some 55 years that way, never an issue,....how unlucky can you BE?? Converter/flexplate/trans pan are higher than the engine oil pan....
