It's not too bad to remove. It connects to the cabin harness in the big cluster of connector above the drivers' left foot It travels in a channel along the driver door sill and then through the driver side of the storage compartment with a branch up through the rear roof for the T-top alarms and the dome light Other than the rear body lamps the only other thing on the harness is the fuel level sensor.
If i remember correctly the bushing is symmetrical so you can remove/install it from either side. There's only one chassis ground connection near the radio antenna.
If you want to add a third (high) brake lamp now's the time as all you have to do is make a pigtail splice into the existing stop lamp lead and attach a new ground with plenty of convenient places to do so. I went to a salvage yard to get the fixture for mine and chose one that was originally on top of a pickup cab. It doesn't interfere in the least with the view in the inside mirror and is highly visible from the outside yet unobtrusive on the inside.
