so i have had this 81 vette for about 14 months and the air conditioner has been at the bottom of the list with all the other repairs. so in my tool box i have this hose and guage to screw the modern freon or what ever you call the new stuff, it fits right on to the fill orvice, its my understanding that the snap on are different between the old and new freon. with that being said i took my multimeter to check the 2 prong plug that goes into the back of the compressor with all the levers inside the car on off i get 0.4 to 0.6 reading than when i turn on the air to normal i get a reading of 0.44 to 0.46 volts is this correct
Old is R12 and new is R134
Your car came from the factory with R12,
The compressor should have a reading of battery voltage, about 12 volts.
Are you sure you are testing the correct plug, it should be near the AC clutch.
