New interior door lock knob question

New interior door lock **** question
How do these things go on?do you need to tap them on with a rubber hammer?..I know the retainer spring needs to come out or partially but I can get them to go on.

Basically yes they "tap" on once the spline is lined up. I've never had to use a hammer but if the clips are too far in or have slide so one side is all the way in and the other is out, it will block the **** from going on.
If it's giving you that problem, loop a piece of string around the back part of the clip and use that to hold the clip out a little, sort of pulling the clip off the know some, and when it's in just slip the sting out
