This is a used procomp head borrowed from a friend and the deck is the worst I've ever seen. Still honestly I don't mess with this stuff all the time but between all the heads I've ever seen, including several friends I've helped over the years, I have not ever never seen one this rough. So if you wanna comment on the video n let my friend know what yah think thx, for me just comment here. He's not into forums or online stuff so if you want him to know comment on the video, that would be the only way he'll see it. [Full disclosure, comments help my video so if you don't wanna help my video, then don't like or comment on it.] I've included a picture for those who don't wanna watch the video.
That's certainly serrated -- and unlike my experience with machined head surfaces. I don't think a steel gasket is going to seal on that either. I think it needs to be sent back. Did your friend get two of these?

Yah it's a pair of heads I only needed to borrow one for the comparison video.
You can use a cheap Ra comparator strip and get a reasonably close number; then abide with whatever gasket maker requires.
That way you'll KNOW rather than a bunch of us slingin' sh*t

Didn't know bout those, I rem seeing a reader you set on the surface or something.
Wow...that is terrible....there is even a piece of aluminum where the cutter dug it out hanging off the deck......someone tried to murder cut this and did it almost dry with a dull bit.
All that RA stuff is nice......but the guys who have been doing it forever know how to set speed and feed and how to use proper lubrication.....the smoother the better but there is a compromise between finish and speed in a production shop....RA is a gauge for the novice IMHO....it applies but it is a given.
When I worked at the engine shop.....we had a Kwik-Way stone table.....it made such a nice finish that we would get people 2000 miles away sending us blocks and heads.....but not many use the stone anymore.
Anyhoo.....have .005 taken off at a good shop and move on.

Thx appreciate the opinion of someone who has exp and done the work, I've got a few other replies elsewhere from machinist and so far the consensuses is it's not acceptable.
