Default Air Fuel Gauge??

I'm looking for a AFR gauge to help tune my Edelbrock AVS 2 carb. Im looking for a wideband.
I have looked at many, but it seems like the reviews are all over the place. A lot of reviews say the gauges are not accurate and many flat out fail after a short time
Does anyone have any first hand experience and suggestions? Not only in car, but maybe external analyzers that you insert in the exhaust pipe?

I have run the below gauge for almost 13 years in my Z06. Back when I bought it, NGK sold it. NGK has since moved to another gauge, but these folks sell the old version now. This gauge has a port for data logging and can be switched easily from vehicles. Even my tuner has 2 of them he uses.

I use AEM wide and and it comes with a Bosch o2 sensor. I have it mounted in a 3 garage pod on my A pillar. It’s been there 3 years I believe and it works great. I used it to set up my Edelbrocks and my Quadrajets. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can see idle part throttle, cruise and wide open throttle. No more trying to read plugs

I purchased the AEM wideband this year and it worked for 5 minutes then went full lean and quit working. i called them and they sent me another sensor at no charge and its worked good ever since. very good customer service.

I have used the Innovate Motorsports gauge for over six years now and it has been reliable. I use a bung and screw in sensor though, I heard the tailpipe sniffers weren’t as accurate, and I find it easier to drive around taking readings with a screw in setup.

Hi Rescue,
Have been contemplating a 3 gauge A pillar mounting as you have done. Can you please share any info on the one you installed?
Thanks

I believe I got the 3 mount pillar pod from amazon. I heated the top to mold It it to the top pillar and shaped it just enough to grab the pillar all the way down to the dash pad. So I Just slide the bottom in behind the dash pad, used the existing screw hole for the a pillar pad Half way up and used the exiting hole at the top. I dyed it to match the interior and you don’t even notice it

i can take some pics if you want

Thanks much Rescue! Don't want to hi jack the thread, but that would be awesome! The pillar pod from Amazon, do you recall if it was it for any particular model or a universal?
Thanks again.

I'm going to throw out another great experience with the AEM.

I had a Innovate- you have to calibrate - and its a pain...and it quit working after a short time.

I was thinking the AEM was a Ricer piece-maybe not as good- but I was a wrong.

Worked right out of the box- NO calibration. And uses the latest greatest Bosch O2 sensor.

I was also looking for a fuel pressure meter- and bought the AEM one. It worked great- right out of the box.

I'm really happy with AEM products.

Here's the one I went with-

Comes with both a black and white gauge-

Hmm.
Been kicking around adding a A/F gauge (I need something to do) and reading the recommendations here I've spent a few days looking at the options, kind of came down to Innovative and AEM.

The AEM seems to have had a bunch of failures over the past little while or so (2020) Even on their own forum people are finding bad gauges it seems, they are changing sensors with little luck and there doesn't seem to be much from AEM other than telling them to send them in for evaluation...\
pspicci above in post 4 had the sensor quit (bosch?) and the new one is working but that was on the 21st or July so not a great touchstone yet.

Looking at the last handful of reviews on summit doesn't look promising either

The Innovative MTX-L seems fairly new and there isn't hardly any reviews out there for it yet so who knows

There is a Innovative DB series that seems to use the "old" controller LC2 with fairly good reviews

Nothing is ever straight forward

Thats the same thing I am finding. Hard to pull the trigger and buy when it seems like hit and miss.

Tried the innovate in the pipe....with all the overlap I had (and 0 exh leaks) couldnt get an accurate reading

AEM for me in the collector. Think most complaints are poor installs.

Not so sure
Looking at Summit, all (except 1) bad reviews were from April of 2019 onward and from about Aug onward, 6 out of 9 seem to be toast out of the box or lasting minutes/days. Amazon shows the same, after About April last year there's problem after problem
Before about March/April 2019 it's positive after positive review for several years, solid units with great results

I've used AEM and Innovative. The innovative is a complete piece of garbage compared to the AEM. There is very poor control theory engineering behind their interface.

historical reference (where I claimed the AEM was superior and then someone came back with data to prove it)

Hey Mooser-

I bought mine 10/19 - but then I not one to do a review - unless I have a problem....

If you buy through Summit or Jegs- and have a problem -both of them have incredible customer service. Both have been super quick to resolve any issues.

I try not to buy from Amazon....

I order one last night so fingers crossed it's not a dud, summit has great customer service but being in Canada it's not the same (time / shipping / brokerage) as what you guys experience down there
Who knows when I'll actually get it installed, or where it'll get installed for that matter, probably shoved wherever I can find a spot for now and I'll look for a more permanent location next winter. I'm still thinking this is a tuning tool and who knows if it will even stay permanently

Finally installed (gauge just temporary location for now) and at least turns on and reads...

Need to tuck up the extra 20 feet or so of cable somewhere and go for a little drive to see something what kind of readings it comes up with

Out of 8 AEM afr units that I have installed I was unlucky to have one oxygen sensor go bad and it was a transplant from my 69 Mach 1 (after tuning) to my 67 C2. In looking back the car was running lean but was not engine damaging. I cant say enough how well the units work and will continue to recommmend them..
