Default Rear spring rate?

With the transverse leaf spring, when manufactures list a spring rate (ex: 360 lbs), is that measured at the trailing arm bolt? Thus each wheel rate is "near" 360 lbs.

Look here:

gmheritagecenter.com

Vehicle Kits:

The 360 lbs composite is the Spring rating which is different that the rate at the wheel.

Example: 1979 base rear spring is 198 lbs (marshmellow!). Rate at the wheel for that spring is 151 LBS.

This subject came up the other week so I went out and made some measurements on my 30 year old VBP monospring which I think might have been a 360# spring. Never kept a sales receipt but that is the most common choice. You haven't mentioned what type spring you are looking at.

I went out and collected some data. The first two pictures show an uncompressed spring with the ends hanging off the hanger bolts. Measured to the differential mounting plate, I have 4". Put the car on the ground, drove it around and came back and measured two different values for the ends of the spring. Drew a diagonal and got about about 1.5" left in the arch. I don't remember which side is which now, but my weights at the rear are LR: 752 RR: 786 and the car sits fairly level but not completely.

I'm going to leave it to others to see what if anything they do with that, but these are actuals.

addendum: so I guess it is possible this was a 300# spring, otherwise it has lost some of its tension in 30 years.
