Default Tach not zeroing out

69 427 coupe. In recently replaced the tach needle and cable on my tachometer. When I replaced the needle I made sure to set it where the stop was at zero. Reinstalled the tach and connected the cable. I just noticed the stop is now at 400 rpm.

what could have caused it to move? Is there a way to re zero it without taking the damn thing apart again?

If you look closely at the picture it appears the face plate got twisted some how. I noticed the lense on the parking brake warning light does not line up.

is it possible to twist the housing after it is installed? Maybe the tach cable twisted after it was attached?

Ya know, there is Not a direct connection between cables & needle in eiher mechanical speedo or tach; there's a magnetic drive in-between,

Suggest you pull Both and send them out for cleaning & calibration.

Wow.....Good eye.

I would probably just take it apart and fix it. I don't like it, but I'll do it instead of breaking stuff trying to do things while installed. I would strongly suggest pulling the steering column too...it's well worth it to avoid damaging things......I finally accepted that lesson after 3+ decades of avoiding it....and it's easy.
(...and, not that you're asking, but I'd get an electric tach conversion---one of my favorite mods and those new kits let you use your own faceplate.)

Personally... after doing gauges for the last 40 years... I'd have to say... (and I hate it) but you muffed the zero set. Take the thing out and try to re-zero it again. Like 71 said there is no direct connection between the two so there is no reason the needle would be higher than 0

I went ahead and pulled it and re zeroed it. You are right I did not do it correctly the first time.
