Default Red illuminating headlamp switch

Hi guys. Took the 72 out for a Sat night cruise and when I turned on the headlamps, the headlamp switch illuminated (I believe it always has before, but would go out when headlamps raised). However this time it stayed illuminated the whole time the lights were on. Is there a microswitch of sorts to tell the red lamp both sides are fully up? I’m not up to speed on the system so any coaching how to troubleshoot greatly appreciated. Big thanks

The red light will bo OFF with the headlights DOWN. and when they are fully UP.
The little lamp will only be ON as the lights go up or down.

There are two (very fragile plastic) switches at each headlight, one on each side.
One or both might need adjustment.

That switch is a 'normally closed' switch. For it to continue to send power to that warning lamp, it would have to have failed in a 'closed' position, even though the plunger was depressed.....or the mounting failed and the switch is there but has never made contact with anything.

Dave, check under the nose up in the cavity where the head light assemblies are and see if there is a wire like this with a plug on one end hanging loose...

It should have a switch like this attached to it...

It's not uncommon for this switch to break from it's mount and be hanging loose. This switch when mounted correctly turns on when the headlights are in transition and turns off when the assemblies are open and in position correctly, will turn the light off.

There's some additional info in this post on this topic... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...questions.html

Good luck... GUSTO

The plastic threads are fairly easy to snap if the mounting nut is over tightened, so be careful with it!

Closed when plunger depressed. If light is stuck on and headlights are fully open, unplugging the harness at the switch will extinguish the light.
